School meals

In September 2014, Central Government announced that Free School Meals would be offered to all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. This initiative has been developed with the purpose of aiding child development, supporting academic performance and improving levels of healthy eating.

How do I access free school meals for my infant school child?
You will not need to submit a Free School Meal application to access the new service, as all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be automatically entitled, although a meal will still need to be ordered. Schools are billed for free school meals by the caterers; the Local authority then gives us an allocation in our annual budget to pay for these meals.

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, due to you being in receipt of a qualifying Free School Meal benefit your child's school will be eligible for additional funding.

In order for the school to access this funding, you will need to complete an application for Free School Meals on the Northants County Council website https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/schools-and-education/free-school-meals-and-pupil-premium. If your circumstances remain unchanged, this will also allow your child to receive a free meal after they have left Year 2.

Pupils may bring a packed lunch to school. Hot meals are provided by Kingswood Caterers, who charge £2.30 per meal.  These are purchased online at www.kingswoodcatering.co.uk
