Hayley Davies
Foundation Governor

What do you do for a living?
I currently teach GCSE English.

What skills and experience do you bring to the Governing Board?
As someone who has managed a number of different teams, projects and volunteers, my main contribution to the Governing Board is my enthusiasm. I have significant marketing, project, personnel and performance management experience from my previous roles in the highly regulated housing sector. As a keen volunteer for a number of local and national organisations my ability to motivate and work effectively in a team and consistently demonstrate my commitment will hopefully help assist the Governing Board to successfully deliver their aims.

Why did you volunteer to be a governor?
I was delighted to be asked to be a part of this great team, all dedicated to supporting the school in its continued success.   Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and make a real difference to such a pivotal part of Flore’s community.

What do you get out of the role personally?
I enjoy being part of a friendly successful team, with a true commitment to working together to create an ambitious and happy learning environment.

What committees are you involved in or what specific statutory responsibilities do you fulfil on behalf of FGB?
I am a Foundation Governor, appointed by the Church to have a special care for the school’s Christian character and promotion of the school’s ethos along with all our other principle duties.  I am currently attending both the Finance & Premises Committee and the Safeguarding & Standards Committee, this enables me to have a greater understanding of the school’s position and compare performance with other schools both locally and nationally.

What type of interactions with school do you have?
As my children no longer attend the school, my interaction is through the myriad of opportunities presented by the lead the school takes in community events. May Day, the Flower Festival, ‘Best Village of the Year” presentations, numerous concerts and productions, as well as being part of the team that ran the prayer space project, which allows students to take time out of their lessons to experience prayer and discuss key issues in modern life. As lead governor for Sport I have been delighted with the school’s meteoric rise in our huge array of sporting achievements this year. Sports Day is a great showcase for the whole school to demonstrate our core values.

What top tip would you give to anyone thinking about becoming a governor?
Volunteering is a great way to support your local school; you don’t need specific knowledge just enthusiasm, life experience and the desire to make a difference. Get active, get involved, get governing!
